One of the series of forums, Metaverse and ChatGPT and Sora, led by the Editor-in-Chief of the journal and hosted by the China Metaverse Technology and Application Innovation Platform and the Jiangsu Metaverse Engineering Research Center, will be held on February 21, 2024, in Nanjing, Jiangsu, China. On October 4, 2023, Prof. John P. A. from Stanford University and Elsevier Data Repository jointly released the 2023 version of the Stanford University World Ranking of Top 2% Scientists List, which is also the sixth version (Version 6). University World Ranking of Top 2% Scientists List), is also the sixth version (Version 6). 12 scholars from the Metaverse team are on the list, among that, 6 scholars are on the list of "Whole career World Top 2% Scientists" and 10 are on list of "2022 World Top 2% Scientists".

    On May 21, 2023 (15:00 Beijing time), Metaverse (Met, eISSN: 2810-9791) successfully held the first Editorial Board Meeting of 2023 Metaverse in China via both online and offline in the Goldfish Mouth Foundation Building, Jianye District, Nanjing, China.

Geometric shape representation algorithms are key technologies in the fields of computer graphics and geometric modeling. The Medial Axis Transform (MAT) is an important geometric model description tool that provides a simplified representation of complex geometric shapes while ensuring accurate descriptions of geometric shape and topology. Therefore, it can meet the requirements of many modern research fields, including geometric modeling, pattern recognition, model segmentation, model deformation, physical simulation, path planning, and more. This paper first introduces the basic concept of the medial axis transform, including the definition of the medial axis transform and the concept of medial axis primitives. It then describes the extraction algorithms for the medial axis transform, specific research on the medial axis transform in computer vision and computer graphics, potential applications of the medial axis transform, and medial axis transform datasets. Finally, the disadvantages and advantages of the medial axis transform are discussed, and some suggestions on possible future research directions are presented.

The advancement of hardware and computing power has enabled deep learning to be used in a variety of fields, particularly in AI medical applications in intelligent medicine and medical metaverse. Prof. Meie Fang has published an overview of adversarial attack strategies that have been proposed against medical image models and the defense methods used to protect them. Meanwhile, several suggestions were given on how to enhance the robustness of medical image deep learning models in intelligent medicine and medical metaverse.

On 15^th November, Clarivate^TM has announced the list of “Highly Cited Researchers 2022” in the world. Prof. Zhihan Lv, one of the outstanding editors of Metaverse, is on the list!

On September 23^rd, an announcement sparked a lot of debate on the Internet. The School of Artificial Intelligence (School of Future Technology) of Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology (NUIST) renamed the Department of Information Engineering to the Department of Metaverse Engineering. Some netizens support the school's innovation, while others worry that the move is just chasing hotspots. “I’m still not clear what the Metaverse means.”, “What can I do after learning this?”, “It’s excellent that a Chinese university is willing to chase this trend, after all, technology is the key to transforming the concept into wealth.”, “I hope students can really learn something, but not a gimmick”

What is the Metaverse? What is the reason for establishing the Department of Metaverse Engineering? How will the training of students be carried out? Will the admission criteria be adjusted?
