Dear Colleagues,

The COVID-19 pandemic brought a temporary respite to overtourism in many destinations. As the pandemic wanes and travel resumes, there is a concern that some destinations may quickly revert to pre-pandemic levels of overtourism. The pandemic has shed light on the positive effects of decreased tourism on the environment and local communities, highlighting the critical need for long-term solutions to prevent overtourism from resurging. However, these areas must find sustainable strategies to ensure a more balanced and responsible tourism approach.

Our goal is to build a sustainable and resilient future in tourism management, with a focus on addressing the challenges of overtourism. This involves strengthening destination resilience, fostering cross-industry partnerships, and engaging local communities to create tourism experiences that are environmentally sustainable, socially equitable, economically viable, and culturally enriching. Furthermore, it is essential to evaluate the real-world impacts of various tourism policies on both local communities and the industry at large.

This section serves as a central hub for revitalizing the global tourism industry by offering insights, solutions, and a platform for future research that addresses overtourism-related issues. We welcome research articles, reviews, and case studies on destination management, destination sovereignty, tourist behavior, and other industry concerns to foster shared insights and explore tourism competitiveness and sustainable destination management.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
