In our journal Pollution Study, a special issue is calling for papers about noise pollution. 

When unwanted sound enters the environment, noise pollution occurs. Propagation of noise has negative impacts on human or animal lives. Everyone has the experience to be suddenly woken up by noisy traffic or drunkards while sleeping soundly. Let�s recall the feeling of that moment. It was so annoying and uncomfortable. 

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), sound levels less than 70 dB are not damaging to humans or other creatures, regardless of how long or consistent the exposure is, and 50 dB is allowed for residential areas. However, the average noise level of 98dB exceeds the standard. Noise pollution is one of the most dangerous environmental threats to health. According to the European Environment Agency (EEA), noise causes 16,600 premature deaths and more than 72,000 hospitalizations every year in Europe alone.

Noise pollution may arise due to a lot of factors, such as poor urban planning, traffic/air traffic, catering and nightlife, construction site, etc. Now the problem has been paid much attention to. 

We are eager to call for papers focusing on noise pollution. Potential topics are suggested but not limited to: causes of noise pollution, effects of noise pollution on health, how to reduce noise pollution, noise mapping, the policies in different countries, impact on children, impact on ecosystems, and the changes due to COVID-19.
