Special Issue Information

In our journal Eco cities, a special issue is calling for papers about policies on eco-cites.

In 2018, Richard Register put forward the eco-city concept in Ecocity Builders defining it as a human settlement modeled on the self-sustaining resilient structure and function of natural ecosystems. Eco-cities are commonly considered ecologically healthy.

Under the background that the world is facing environmental pollution brought by the industrial revolution, green policies were proposed by different countries. Policies, regulations and related laws play a big role in the construction of an eco-city. These approaches emphasize green energy, smart energy, integrated renewable solutions, passive solar design, green structure, ecological and cultural diversity, and environmentally sound policies.

To support cities in selecting and designing the most appropriate policy interventions to address the environmental challenges identified, specifically, the issue will try to provide an overview of the most relevant urban green policies around urban transport, solid waste, water and wastewater, energy and buildings, land planning, green space and biodiversity, governance, finance, etc.

All policies are further illustrated by relevant case studies. Therefore, the special issue hopes to stimulate better discussion on sustainable urban development and to enable policymakers to learn from international best practices. Any article about eco-city research under the policies and laws of different countries is welcome.
