Section Collection Information

Dear Colleagues,

Wearable technology is revolutionizing the life of millions of people worldwide. The current trend is to augment ordinary body-worn devices and monitors (e.g., watches, glasses, bracelets, and clothing) with advanced information and communication technologies such as sensors, electronics, software, connectivity, and power sources. These wearable devices can monitor and assist the user in the management of peoples lives with applications that may range from activity tracking, sport and wellness, mobile games, environmental monitoring, up to e-health.

The editors of Wearable Technology enthusiastically announce an upcoming Section Collection Project dedicated to Wearable Device Testing in all related fields of science, with a special focus on exercise and sport applications, which will cover original measurement research, as well reviews (e.g., narrative, scoping, systematic) and meta-analysis of wearable devices and monitors. This Section Collection is intended to report the recent advances in the multidisciplinary field of wearable technologies and the important gaps that remain regarding their validity and reliability to obtain a more massive diffusion. Of major interest are manuscripts that detail the validity of physiological and biological variables in relation to accepted criterion measures, investigations reporting the reliability of wearable devices, and the use of wearable technologies in a wide array of environments. Topic areas and types of papers may include novel methods for device calibration and validation, new sensor technology, analytic advances in measurement and interpretation.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
