Section Collection Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to the section collection Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease.

Stroke and cerebrovascular diseases refer to conditions that affect the blood vessels and blood supply to the brain. They are a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. The most common types of stroke are ischemic (caused by a blocked artery) and hemorrhagic (caused by a burst blood vessel). Symptoms of a stroke include sudden weakness and numbness on one side of the body, slurred speech, difficulty understanding speech, and loss of vision or balance. Early detection and treatment are crucial to minimize brain damage and improve outcomes. Risk factors for stroke and cerebrovascular diseases include high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, and physical inactivity. Prevention strategies include a healthy diet, regular physical activity, and treating or controlling risk factors. Treatment options vary depending on the type and severity of the stroke and may include medications, surgery, or rehabilitation. Advances in medical technology have improved diagnostic tools, such as computed tomography (CT) scans and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which can quickly identify the type and location of a stroke, enabling prompt and targeted treatment.

The project aims to improve the understanding of this devastating disease and to provide evidence-based treatments and management strategies to healthcare practitioners, researchers, and patients. Additionally, the collection includes advances in stroke rehabilitation, prevention and innovative research techniques. It also highlights the impact of lifestyle factors on stroke risk and the importance of public health campaigns to raise awareness. The project aims to improve the understanding of this devastating disease and to provide evidence-based treatments and management strategies to healthcare practitioners, researchers, and patients.

We look forward to receiving your contributes.
