Special Issue Information

Dear colleagues:

Scope & Aims:

This special issue invites original research, clinical studies, and critical reviews that explore the role of biological regulators and homeostatic mechanisms in the development, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders. With a focus on innovative and integrative approaches, this issue highlights how advances in neurobiology, psychoneuroimmunology, and behavioral sciences are reshaping our understanding and management of psychiatric conditions.

We particularly welcome contributions that investigate new diagnostic tools, biologically informed psychotherapies (e.g., CBT), and emerging pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions. This issue is encouraging a more nuanced view of therapeutic pathways that consider biological individuality, psychological dynamics, and environmental influences.

Topics of Interest Include, but Are Not Limited To:

· Biological regulators in mental health: neuroendocrine, inflammatory, oxidative, and gut–brain pathways

· Homeostatic imbalance in psychiatric disorders: mechanisms and therapeutic implications

· Emerging diagnostics: biomarkers, digital phenotyping, AI-driven mental health tools

· Integrating pharmacological treatment with psychological therapy and lifestyle interventions

· CBT and other psychotherapies informed by neurobiological and psychophysiological mechanisms

· Innovative pharmacotherapies: rapid-acting antidepressants, psychedelics, neuroimmune modulators

· Non-invasive neuromodulation techniques: neurofeedback, tDCS, TMS, vagus nerve stimulation

· Role of psychobiotics, microbiome modulation, and nutritional psychiatry

· Systems biology and computational models for treatment personalization

· Translational and preclinical models investigating homeostatic resilience and dysfunction

· Prevention and early intervention strategies targeting regulatory systems

Why This Special Issue?
Mental health treatment is evolving beyond categorical diagnoses and single-mode therapies. This special issue aims to support a multidimensional and personalized model of care, promoting both innovative pharmacological therapies and evidence-based non-pharmacological interventions. Submissions that examine the synergistic effects of combined approaches are particularly encouraged.
