Special Issue Information

In our journal Advances in Analytic Science, a special issue is calling for papers about nanotechnology in analytical science.

The concept of nanoscale introduces a new scenario where the physicochemical principles, laws and properties are very different from those of the macro and micro worlds. The combination of nanotechnology with molecular biology, information technology and instrumentation is opening the door to a new industrial era. 

As nanotechnology progresses, new nanomaterials are powerful analytical chemical tools that will lead to improved selectivity, sensitivity, rapidity, miniaturizability, and portability of the analytical system. Nanoparticles can be chemically bonded to a surface or functionalized with other organic or inorganic compounds to increase their solubility. Nanoparticles unmodified by chemicals can be used as raw randomized materials or self-assembled raw materials. The nanoparticles most widely used in the analytical sciences at present include silica nanoparticles, carbon nanoparticles, organic polymer nanoparticles, metallic nanoparticles, and supramolecular aggregates.

This special issue tries to discuss the mutual influence between analytical science and analytical nanotechnology and demonstrates how this technology promises to enhance the responsibilities of chemists in the analytical sciences. We are sincerely soliciting papers on analytical nanoscience. Potential topics are recommended but not limited to the limits of actual nanotechnological approaches, relationships between nanotechnology and analytical science, nanoparticles (and nanostructures) in analytical processes, the extraction of accurate chemical information from the nanoworld, application of nanodevices in analytical science, the future of analytical nanotechnology, etc.
