Special Issue Information

Dear colleagues,

Neurodegenerative disorders, which impact approximately one in six people globally, encompass a wide range of neurological conditions such as age-related cognitive decline, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, traumatic brain injuries, stroke, and brain tumors. Although advanced molecular tools and high-throughput technologies are beginning to unravel the complex mechanisms underlying these disorders—paving the way for precision medicine through the identification of novel biomarkers, improved risk stratification, and personalized therapies—effective treatment options remain limited. Despite numerous therapeutic trials over the past decade and a persistently low success rate in drug development, omics-driven approaches hold promise for advancing the understanding and management of these diseases. A key obstacle in therapy is the blood-brain barrier (BBB), a protective interface that not only shields the brain but also regulates metabolic and transport processes, thereby restricting drug access. To overcome this barrier, innovative drug delivery platforms based on nanotechnology and microtechnology have been developed. These targeted systems enhance drug precision, reduce off-target effects, and improve therapeutic efficacy by interacting specifically with intended biological targets. Ongoing research efforts—from basic science to clinical and neuropathological studies—continue to drive the search for new strategies in the diagnosis, understanding, and treatment of neurodegenerative conditions.

We solicit the submission of original papers. In addition, theoretical methods, such as Reviews, Perspectives, and Opinion papers on possible future prospects are welcome. This Research Topic encourages submissions that address the following subjects:

(1) Signs of some neurodegenerative disorders as brain aging, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, brain injuries, brain strokes to brain cancer

(2)  Identifying potential modifications to molecular pathways in these neurodegenerative disorders

(3) Investigating new cell markers expression in neurodegenerative disorders

(4) Identification of cell type-specific marker genes

(5) Animal models inducing these disorders

(6) Role complementary medicine and stem cell therapy in ameliorating these disorders

(7) brain drug delivery systems such as nanovesicles and nanoparticles

(8) Novel approaches to overcome the blood-brain barrier
