Dear colleagues,

Female urology is a specialized branch of medicine focusing on the urinary system's function and disorders unique to female anatomy. It encompasses the diagnosis, treatment, and management of conditions affecting the urinary tract and pelvic organs in women.

Key aspects of female urology revolve around addressing various concerns related to urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary tract infections (UTIs), interstitial cystitis, and pelvic pain disorders. These conditions often have a profound impact on a woman's quality of life and require specialized care tailored to female anatomy and physiology.

One of the primary issues addressed in female urology is urinary incontinence, which affects millions of women worldwide. Stress incontinence, urge incontinence, and mixed incontinence are common types, characterized by involuntary leakage of urine due to weakened pelvic floor muscles, hormonal changes, childbirth, or nerve damage. Treatment options range from conservative measures like  pelvic  floor  exercises   and  lifestyle  modifications  to  more   advanced  interventions   such   as medication, minimally invasive procedures, or surgery.

Pelvic organ prolapse is another significant concern managed in female urology. It involves the descent or bulging of pelvic organs (such as the bladder, uterus, or rectum) into the vaginal space due to  weakened  supporting  tissues.  Treatment  may  involve  pelvic  floor  physical  therapy,  pessaries (devices inserted into the vagina to support organs), or surgical repair.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are prevalent among women due to their shorter urethra, making it easier for bacteria to enter the bladder. Female urology addresses the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of recurrent UTIs through appropriate antibiotics, behavioral modifications, and sometimes prophylactic measures.

Furthermore,  conditions  like  interstitial  cystitis  and  chronic  pelvic  pain  syndromes  are  also within  the  purview   of  female  urology,  requiring   a  comprehensive  approach  that  may   involve medications, physical therapy, dietary changes, and, in some cases, more advanced interventions. The last,  but  not  the  least,  female  urogynecological  cancers  inlcude  rare  types  of  malignancies  with intricacies in muldisciplinary approach.

In essence, female urology plays a crucial role in understanding, diagnosing, and managing various  urinary  and  pelvic  conditions  that  significantly  impact  women's  health  and  wellbeing.  It emphasizes tailored, multidisciplinary  approaches to  address these unique  issues  and  improve the overall quality of life for affected individuals.

The main objective of this section is to play a leading role in establishing “Female Urology” as an   important   discipline   within   “Urinary   and   Renal   Research".   However,   considering   its interdisciplinary structure and potential impact to scientific and technological development, the goal of the section is to publish research articles/reviews/casde reports supporting the   advancements in the field of “Female Urology”

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
